Pruning A Weeping Willow Tree: Pointers & Information

About Me
Discussing Tree Care Routines

Hi there, my name is Mel Dickons. Welcome to my website about tree care. When I moved out to the country, I was surprised to see a cluster of fruit trees on the edge of my property. I decided to support the growth of these trees with targeted care routines based on their exact needs. Through the years, the trees grew and flourished under my care, producing tons of fruit along the way. On this site, I will talk about all the different ways you can care for trees to bolster their growth. Please visit daily to learn new information about tree care. Thank you.

Pruning A Weeping Willow Tree: Pointers & Information

With their long and whimsical branches that sway gently back and forth with the wind and whisper enchanting natural sounds, weeping willow trees are a real prize to have as part of your property or landscape. However, getting the most from these trees and keeping them beautiful is not something to take lightly; they will need some of your attention. Take a look at some of the pointers and information every homeowner should know if they have a weeping willow tree on their property.

1. Hand-cutting tools are preferred with weeping willow trees.

There are all kinds of electrical and gas-powered pruning machines out there that you could use to trim the branches of your trees. Some homeowners will even do some pruning with an ordinary chainsaw. However, it is almost always best if you trim your willows with hand tools, such as loppers or pruning saws. If you take off several branches at once, you will detract from that naturally flowing appearance of the branches. Instead, use your hand tools to remove problematic branches individually and at different lengths.

2. Pruning your weeping willows will be an ongoing chore.

Weeping willow trees are definitely beautiful, but they also do require some ongoing maintenance, even more maintenance than a lot of other large tree varieties. The branches continue to grow, so they are constantly dying off and being replaced with new ones. You may have to actually go under the tree and remove the dead and dying branches occasionally just so the new branches have room to sprout. If your tree has gotten large, contact pruning services like A Advanced Tree Services, for more help.

3. Weeping willows like their roots systems well hydrated.

Weeping willows are commonly planted in marshy areas or along creeksides because their massive root systems can help stabilize the ground and absorb excess water. Not only do these trees work well for that purpose, they truly do need a lot of hydration. The limberness of the branches is affected if the tree does not get a substantial amount if hydration. Dehydration can lead to excessive breakage of those beautiful branches. Therefore, if your weeping willow is planted in an area where there is not a lot of natural hydration, you may have to water the tree to keep it healthy.

Overall, weeping willow trees have a sort of attractive draw that is hard to ignore, but these trees need a little extra TLC. If you need help with pruning your weeping willows, reach out to a tree service professional in your area.
