About Me
Discussing Tree Care Routines

Hi there, my name is Mel Dickons. Welcome to my website about tree care. When I moved out to the country, I was surprised to see a cluster of fruit trees on the edge of my property. I decided to support the growth of these trees with targeted care routines based on their exact needs. Through the years, the trees grew and flourished under my care, producing tons of fruit along the way. On this site, I will talk about all the different ways you can care for trees to bolster their growth. Please visit daily to learn new information about tree care. Thank you.

Why Tree Removal May Need To Include The Roots

Removing a tree from your yard can be a precautionary measure. Even though the tree may not be doing any harm for the moment, with its height and canopy being perfectly manageable, there could be another problem just over the horizon. Are you concerned about the tree's root system potentially doing damage to your home, pool, or another structure on your property? Tree removal is a comprehensive and fairly straightforward solution, but it might not be as straightforward as you think.

Continuing Development

Severing a tree at its trunk may not wholly kill the tree. This was no doubt your objective, but the tree's root system can continue to develop. It will eventually die and decompose, but it can be ill-advised to wait. There are many variables to consider, with the variety of the tree determining the configuration of its root system.

Lateral and Oblique

The key issue is the tree's lateral roots, which extend horizontally out from the trunk, just below the surface of the ground. Lateral roots aren't especially deep but can lead to paths and drives cracking. The tree's oblique roots, extending downwards at a diagonal angle, can be equally problematic, as these are the roots most likely to find their way into the foundations of a building or into a swimming pool.

Stump Grinding

You need to consult a professional tree services company. Your initial removal effort may not be as comprehensive as it needed to be. To start with, a tree services company will dig up the stump and its immediate roots. This can be ground on site, with the resulting cellulose wood pulp making a nutritional mulch that can fertilize the soil, while also protecting flower beds from temperature extremes, and even restricting wood growth. Some roots are likely to remain, even after stump grinding.

Root Excavation and Removal

Lateral roots can be quite easily excavated, and this will take place. Your lawn may need limited re-turfing afterward. Some oblique roots may be removed at the time of stump removal when the soil is suitably aerated. Bear in mind that not all roots will be removed, but a significant amount of the root structure will be. This removal accelerates the death and decomposition of the portions of the root system left behind, and what is left behind will no longer be capable of causing any damage to your yard or home.

Cutting down a tree may not be enough, and you'll need to be sure that its roots are similarly removed.
